Nineteen adult dogs, and one puppy were rescued from a breeder in Central Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The dogs suffered from multiple tumors, broken jaws, missing and rotted teeth, mange, ringworm, debilitating orthopedic problems, multiple hematomas around and in the ears, and bladder stones. This puppy died six days later in an emergency vet hospital from hypothermia and cardiac arrest. She came out of the mill with white discharge streaming from her nose and mouth, and it was determined that she was approximately four weeks of age, far too young to be away from her mother. It is difficult to imagine a state inspector or an inspector from the USDA walking by these dogs and not noticing that they needed immediate medical attention. MLAR has urged the Bureau of Dog Law to use vets during inspections, but they refuse. The warden assigned to this Lancaster County kennel is obviously incapable (or unwilling) of recognizing a dog in distress.
