Seventeen Yellow Labs were rescued during the investigation. Four puppies were rescued from a farmer/breeder in Lancaster County during the preparation for the show. Their parents and nine others were pulled from rabbit hutches, where they had lived their entire lives standing on wire, a week later and were some of the first dogs Lisa Ling and her crew filmed for the show. We all watched horrified as the farmer dragged the dogs out of their hutches and over to our truck by the chains around their necks. Later, back at our shelter, the dogs had difficulty walking, never having stood or walked on solid flooring. The farmer told me in the week prior to the arrival of the film crew that he had intended to shoot five of the Labs who were eight years of age and could no longer produce puppies. Governor Rendell has made this illegal in Pennsylvania. Do you know what the laws say about destroying dogs in your state?
