Chocolate may not be good for animals but it certainly is a winning ingredient in MLAR’s fundraising efforts thanks to Iron Hill Brewery and Restaurant in Phoenixville. The restaurant donated 75 cents for each Double Chocolate Hill dessert sold in the past year to support the annual budget of the rescue.

Kathryn M. Stepan (center), Administrative Assistant at Iron Hill and a dedicated MLAR volunteer stopped by recently to present a check for $1,623 to Michele Muller, Development Coordinator (far right) and Phyllis Oxenreider, Cat Care Coordinator and Merlin. Looking on with anticipation of more kibble to come are MLAR adult cats from top to bottom, Tyler, Abby, Audrey, Hobbes and Moses.
The restaurant has pledged to continue its Chocolate Double Hill support for the coming year. In addition, MLAR will be the recipient of proceeds from Iron Hill’s Give 20 program. On Tuesday, April 24th, the Phoenixville site will donate 20% of each dining bill for lunch and dinner (food only) if participants present with a Give 20 coupon. You may download a coupon by clicking HERE. See you at Iron Hill on April 24th! Our companion animals thank you and all the good people at Iron Hill Brewery and Restaurant!

Ethan Clearfield presents his check to Betsy Legnini, Managing Director, with wags of gratitute from Sarah and Mabelline.
Biscuit Baker Ethan Clearfield stopped by during Spring Break 2012 to drop off a check and visit with some of the animals his successful fundraising project has helped! “Biscuit Baker E,” as Ethan is now known, is the sole proprietor, owner and head baker of a business he created for his successful fundraisers. Shown here with MLAR’s managing director Betsy Legnini, Ethan proudly shows off his latest donation from the proceeds of his business – a hugely generous check for $2,500! This gift brings the Biscuit Baker’s five year total to $6,000 raised in support of feeding and caring for our animals. Joining in the fun and hoping for some of those delicious biscuits are Mabelline (held by Ethan and adopted by Kennel Manager Megan Anderson) and Sarah, a new arrival to MLAR. Thank you Ethan!

Our rescue runs on 100% philanthropy and depends on the generous spirit of hundreds of volunteers who help us give loving care to our animals. However, our facilities and grounds also need TLC from time to time. Volunteers from a variety of organizations armed with shovels, rakes, hammers and paint brushes descend of our grounds to landscape; clean out our barn and storage areas; paint walls; and help us get ready for special events held on our site. MLAR gives a huge shout out to the corporations and organizations who recently supported us with volunteer hours. If your company, organization or school is interested in a project, contact us at donate@mlar.org.

QVC turned the tables on MLAR this holiday season and adopted the rescue as their QVC Host Holiday Charity! The hosts distribute information about our mission and programs during their holiday gathering and collected $2,885 to support veterinary care for our animals. They also reached out to Halo Pet Foods and secured a donation of more than $4,000 worth of dog and cat food and treats. MLAR is exceedingly grateful to OUR friends at QVC.

Pictured from left posing in the pet food storage area where the Halo Pet Food is stored are Jack Comstock, QVC VP of Talent and former MLAR Board member; Bill Smith, MLAR Exec. Dir., and QVC hosts Richard Domeier, Carolyn Gracie and Jennifer Coffey holding Scooby.
